Hardware and plumbing - A fancy new faucet? How about a new sink? Maybe one made of soapstone, enamel or even copper. And you'd be surprised what shiny new cabinet door and drawer handles can do.
Appliances - Refrigerator and freezer doors built into cabinetry are popular these days. So are stainless steel ranges, hoods, cook tops and ovens to provide that professional look. Or an indoor grille? "Come on into the kitchen; the steaks are on the fire."
Cabinetry - A paint or stain job doesn't cost a lot but it can do a lot. Instead of replacing your cabinets you could just replace the doors. How about some glass-fronted upper cabinets with display lighting? Sharp!
